Spero Meliora

The “motto” or “battle cry” of the Lowe family is;

“Spero Meliora”.

The literal translation of the Latin 1st person singular active verb “Spero” is “Apsire”, “Desire” or “Hope”, whilst “Meliora” is translated as “to improve” or “to make better”.

Therefore the literal Latin to English translation of the motto is “I hope for better things”. This is then adapted to give emphasis and context to the motto giving us the modern English translation of;

“Aspire to greater things”.
